Renata Commisso

Renata Commisso is an independent dancer, maker and instructor based in Sydney, Australia. She has worked as a professional dancer for 12 years in Europe and North America with leading dance companies such as Opera de Lyon, Victor Ullate Madrid, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. Renata became a freelance artist in 2017, establishing a collective that developed and performed a range of multi-disciplinary works in Montreal, Canada. Renata returned to Sydney in 2018 and has since collaborated with various companies and independent artists including Opera Australia, National Gallery of Australia, The Living Room Theatre and Sue Healey.

As a maker, Renata has undertaken research residencies with Critical Path, DirtyFeet, AusDanceNSW and Annandale Creative Arts and is currently collaborating with Julie-Anne Long and Cristina Commisso in the Authenticity Project.  Renata’s current practice is centred in understanding human nature and influencing change.  Renata also leads a Move and Groove creative dance classes for adults and instructs for Dance for Parkinson’s Australia and The Right Foot program by DirtyFeet. Renata is passionate about community arts and using dance as a tool to improve our physical and mental wellbeing.
