Riana Head-Toussaint is a multidisciplinary artist with disability, who uses a manual wheelchair for mobility. Her practice spans a variety of areas – including but not limited to dance, performance, acrobatics and film – with the concept or investigation at the center of each work largely dictating what form(s) will be used. She regularly collaborates with other artists and non-artists, and reciprocal mentoring and embedding of access are important parts of her artistic process.

She currently has several of her own works in development. Her dance film, Untitled (2019), was commissioned by Human Rights Watch for their ‘Voices for Justice’ event series. She is also a member of Shopfront’s ‘Harness Ensemble’ for emerging artists.

Riana has undertaken residencies and masterclasses with a range of companies and individuals, including Candoco Dance Company (UK), Bill Shannon (US), Gravity & Other Myths (Aus), Force Majeure (Aus), Amrita Hepi (Aus) and James Batchelor (Aus).

In 2018, she was selected and funded to travel to London to attend Southbank Centre’s Disability Arts Festival, ‘Unlimited’, as part of the Festival’s International Delegation.

As well as being an artist, Riana is a qualified lawyer, access consultant and disability activist.
