Cynthia Florek

Anthea Doropoulos

Cynthia Florek is a multidisciplinary artist based on unceded Darug land. Born to migrant parents from Peru and Poland and raised in Western Sydney, she has always been surrounded with culture and tradition. Her practice encompasses dance, image making and holding space for community. Cynthia enjoys art that is dreamy and evocative, rich with texture and colour and aims to achieve these things both within her dance practice and with everything else. Cynthia is currently exploring ways to weave feminist theory into dance methodologies.

Cynthia has previously worked with/learnt from Leizel Igadna, Dwell Chen Serra, Rajni Shah, Paul Cordeiro, Agatha Gothe-Snape (Lion’s Honey, Kaldor Public Art Projects) and recently took part in Riana Head-Toussaint’s choreographic lab. She is currently a member of UTP RISING, Feminist Killjoys Reading Group and We Are Here (Emma Saunders, FORM Dance Projects).

When she’s not dancing, she’s likely to be studying history (UNSW), attempting to alter all of her clothes or napping at any given opportunity.
