Rosslyn Wythes

From Orange, a country town in the middle of NSW, to the opposite side of Australia to attain a Bachelor of Arts (Dance) in Perth, Rosslyn has trained at WAAPA embracing many styles of contemporary dance. From contact improvisation, to classical ballet technique Rosslyn has also studied improvisation, choreographic skills, Indian classical dance, Spanish, Feldenkrais, anatomy, dance history, aerial silk and trapeze skills, astanga yoga and studied the repertoire of Anna Terressa de Keersmaeker, Russell Maliphant and Anouk van Dyk.Performing works choreographed by Matthew Morris, Sue Peacock, Xiaoxiong Zhang, Dean Walsh, Felicity Bott and Jessica Lewis, during her time at WAAPA, she was also performed with Spanish Company La Fura del Baus for the Perth International Arts Festival opening ceremony (2010) and intervene with Les Ballets C de la B with Michael Whaites (2011). These works fit within a spectrum from more theatre-based works to movement based covering the roles of soloist, duet, trio and group work. During these creative processes Rosslyn has development task based skills, partner skills, improvisation, team working skills and a strong but calming performance presence.

Rosslyn created a short work ‘Building Falls’ performed at the Dolphin Theatre UWA late August of 2011 alongside other selected works of the graduating WAAPA students. A solo work will be developed in 2012, in response to the experiences and information gathering during my tertiary training and in reaction to my immersion into the ‘real world’.

Rosslyn is interested in exploring and expanding her contribution to a creative process, responding conceptually, intellectually and physically. She is attracted to and excited by inter-disciplinary collaboration and developing a unique movement style through performance, improvisation and choreography.
