Martin Delamo

Originally from Germany, is a Sydney-based dance artist and movement trainer. He is best known for his full-length solos, fusing intimate storytelling and idiosyncratic movement. These include It’s a Jungle Out There (2009), Never Been This Far Away From Home (2007) and Under Attack (2005). Martin has been nominated for two Australian Dance Awards - Best Male Dancer (2005) and Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance (2010). He also received nominations as Most Outstanding Dancer in Dance Australia’s annual Critics’ Survey three years running (2004 - 06). Martin regularly teaches for a wide range of dance organizations and companies and has extensively worked as mentor and consultant on projects initiated by young and emerging artists. In recent years, he has extended his practice into choreographing group work and solos for others. These include Stored/Restored and What Remains as part of Reverb (1) (Melbourne Fringe, 2009), The Reset Quintet (DirtyFeet, 2009) and Mountains Never Meet (LINK, Perth, 2008). Martin’s work has toured nationally and internationally (UK, Japan, Brazil). In February/March this year, he remounted his most recent solo, It’s a Jungle Out There, and toured it to Performance Space at CarriageWorks, Dancehouse Melbourne and Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA). Martin’s continued interest is in the interplay between dance and spoken text and the use of improvisation within predetermined structures.
